Coprinus comatus, the Shaggy Mane or Lawyer's Wig mushroom, is a common and distinctive fungus found across Europe and North America. It is easily recognised by its tall, white, shaggy cap that auto-digests into black ink as it matures — a process called deliquescence. Despite its ephemeral nature, it is prized as a culinary mushroom when young. Medicinally, it has attracted significant research interest for its blood sugar-regulating properties.
