Circa Oyster
Pleurotus ostreatus, the Pearl Oyster Mushroom, is one of the most widely cultivated mushrooms in the world, second only to the button mushroom. It grows naturally on dead and dying hardwood trees across temperate and subtropical regions. Its culinary popularity is matched by an impressive medicinal profile. Oyster mushroom contains naturally occurring lovastatin — the same class of compound as pharmaceutical statin drugs — which inhibits HMG-CoA reductase and supports healthy cholesterol metabolism. Its unique beta-glucan, pleuran, has demonstrated potent immune-modulating and anti-tumor activity in multiple studies. It is also rich in ergothioneine, the 'longevity vitamin' antioxidant, and contains mevinolin and other bioactive compounds.
